Boruca Art Envision Festival 2023
Why participate and open this bridge?
The opportunity to bring into light the art of indigenous people in Costa Rica to a platform and space that promotes in an international level is something local indigenous rarely have access to.
To me, as a bridge I felt this could mean a new way to motivate the new generation of indigenous youth to cultivate the arts and to listen to the elders regarding the stories of the cosmo vision to continue a legacy of memories that connect us back to Mother nature.
In this case I have produced various events with Kamel a Boruca indigenous artist who has open the path for many of the painters of his community, to showcase his skills inside the Bri-Bri community and also to show travellers and tourists our stories through art.
Creating a space for Kamel to travel to a Festival of Arts and Music and display his art gives him a new perspective of other artists, other storytellers and what is being channeled in the present times.
As part of the bridging Kamel the artist was able to create 4 pieces for the Sacred Fire space inside of Envision Festival 2023. 4 direction flags, represented each by a local animal (east- eagle, west- jaguar, north, hummingbird and south the serpent).
Although, we the local indigenous only cultivate the salutation of the East and West in the ceremonies, as this is an international festival, the local indigenous wanted to welcome the traditions of others that were visiting, the Yawanawa tribe from Brazil and the Mexica descendants from Mexico.
A multi-cultural ground to be inspired.
From this event we are visualizing the opportunities for workshops and education alliances in the future.
